There are three top resources that I have referred to regarding writing style, both in book form and via internet searches. When I transferred to a new division at a former employer in the late 1980s, the head of the department gave me The Elements of Style. He told me he gave everyone in the department a copy. I liked and respected the fact that he valued good writing. A couple of years ago, a former writing instructor recommended The Chicago Manual of Style: The Essential Guide for Writers, Editors, and Publishers. As an occupational therapist I’ve referenced the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA Style) on a number of occasions. Truth be told, I’ve shaken my fist at that last damn book, too. It’s an art to master any rule of writing.
